Kilimanjaro – Machame route – 6 days

$1730 per person

Machame route also known as the “Whiskey” route, is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. Machame’s draw is in its scenic beauty. However, the trail is considered difficult, steep and challenging, particularly due to its shorter itinerary. Therefore this route is better suited for more adventurous folks or those with some high altitude, hiking or backpacking experience.

This is a 6 day Kilimanjaro hiking tour is starting at Machame gate, ascending through afromontane forest and then into the heath zone and on to the edge of the remnants of the Shira volcano. The route then circumnavigates the main peak, Kibo, anticlockwise on route passing some spectacular features such as giant steps and glacial valleys. The key difference between the 7 and 6 day version of this route is that this 6 day hike misses a night camping at Karanga camp and so the section from Barranco to Barafu camp is long. This means if you do not acclimatise well or are unfit, this will be very tough and will require to give your best. The final ascent is from Barafu camp. It is a night time ascent to Uhuru Peak via Stella Point. The descent is via the Mweka route (The Mweka Route is a direct route to the bottom of the mountain with one stop over at Mweka camp half way down the mountain).
